04 Obtaining a study permit
In order to study in Norway, you must obtain a study permit if you are from a country outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland. If you are a citizen of the EU/EEA or Switzerland, you need to register with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration.
As an EU/EEA citizen planning to study and live in Norway for more than three months, you need to register with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). Check out UDI’s official website to learn about registration here.
International students from countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland need to obtain a residence permit for studies or a study permit before coming to Norway. To apply, you must first be accepted into a study program in Norway and demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to live there. Read about all the requirements here. Once granted a study permit, you are allowed to work part-time for up to 20 hours a week, including remote work.
