Oslo is an eco-friendly capital and one of the most sustainable cities in the world. It is a compact city, so you can easily walk or cycle around town. There are many options for outdoor activities all year such as: hiking, cycling, skiing, swimming, and boating. Walking and ski trails are easily accessible by public transportation, and you can reach the local islands by public ferry for the same cost as a bus ticket.

In the winter, it is popular to visit the saunas located along the coast in the city center and take a cold plunge in the fjord: Oslo Kok, Salt and Oslo badstuforening. For runners, there public running events throughout the year, such as Oslo Marathon in September, and Holmenkollstafetten in May.
