The World’s Coolest Day Returns on Saturday, August 31st

Verdens Kuleste Dag is back this year on Saturday, August 31st, from 11:00 to 16:00. Held annually at Akershus Fortress in Oslo, this event is organized by the Sparebankstiftelsen DNB and Sentralen. It’s a completely free event offering with activities for children of all ages.

With 37 activities hosted by 37 different organizations, there’s something for everyone! The National Museum is bringing the interactive digital primeval forest Silva to the fortress, where kids can create insects and fill it with life. MUNCH invites children to paint their own version of Oslo and meet their new mascot, Herr Storm. Kids can also dance, play basketball, practice judo, play chess, and much more.

If you’re planning to spend this fall foraging for mushrooms, don’t miss the opportunity to learn about the different types of mushrooms found in Marka from The Norwegian Association for Mycology and Foraging.

Take a look at the map of activities, plan your day, and bring your “Norwegian matpakke” or enjoy food from the food trucks. Have a fun day with your kids!

Practical Information: Information about the event can be found here (scroll down for English). You can find details on time, location, activity description, and age suitability.

There might be some queues for the activities, but don’t worry— there will be queue activities for kids to make the waiting fun!

Save Sunday, September 1st, for Open Port Day!

Enjoy all the activities for all ages that Oslo Havnelangs, or Open Port Day, has to offer! Take a walk along the harbor promenade from Trettenparken at Filipstad to Bjørvika and join in on some of over forty exciting activities, all free of charge. The event is hosted by Port of Oslo.

Check out the map to see where everything is happening, and don’t miss Oslo Met's activities, including robot boats and making your own rubber band boats at Filipstad. Sail with the little “Elias: the little rescue boat”, meet kind police officers, and step on the boats that both the Oslo Fire and Rescue Department and the police are showing off.

As you continue towards Bjørvika, make a stop by Vippetangen for a free historical boat tour—please keep in mind that the tours are in Norwegian. Take a break and enjoy fresh seafood at the Oslo Fish Market. At SALT Art & Music, enjoy a concert for all ages, and don’t forget to book a family sauna session in Bjørvika.
