September 28th - Walking tour of Horten

Oslopolitan is partnering with Nicca Wanderlust, a former Expat of Oslopolitan ambassador for this low-key, fun and free walking tour of Horten, a town just a few hours south of Oslo.

The whole family is invited to come, just register here so we approximately how many we are at the walking tour.

đźš‚ Getting There:

There will be a few options on how to join the tour.

  1. Join by VY train from Oslo S, taking the train to Moss Station (about 1 hour).
    1. From Moss Station, it’s a short 10-minute walk to the Moss Ferry Terminal.
  2. Meet us at Moss Ferry Terminal, and we’ll hop on the world’s largest electric ferry, the Bastø Fosen, for a scenic ride across the Oslofjord to Horten.
    (The ferry is free for passengers on foot; but are you bringing a car you’ll need to pay a fee.)
  3. Meet us in Horten Sentrum (TBA: address will come) at 12:00/noon

You can also take the VY train to Skoppum station and then a bus to Horten sentrum.

🚶‍♂️ The Journey Begins: If you take the ferry From Moss, you’ll catch glimpses of the Prison Island and the stunning Oslofjord. Lets hope for sun and beautiful colors of fall foliage will make it a fun trip.

Once we arrive at Horten Ferry Terminal, our historical walk begins! We’ll explore the heart of Horten, from the charming town center to the scenic Horten Canal, and onward to the highlight of our trip: Karljohansvern.

🌟 Options at Karljohansvern:

The area of Karljohansvern is walkable and lots to discover for free with cafes and shops as well, but keep in mind that to enter the museums listed below there is a fee* for adults, but free for kids (under 18).

  • Marinemuseet: Discover one of the world’s oldest naval museums, where you can even step inside a real submarine!
  • Preus Museum: Explore this unique photography museum, featuring exhibitions from historical to contemporary works

*100 NOK per person for each museum

  • Good mood
  • Proper outdoor clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended for our 2-hour walk through Karljohansvern’s protected areas.
  • Bring your own matpakke (packed lunch) so we can sit and get to know each other.

Meet Nicca Wanderlust: Embracing Life in Horten

Nicca Wanderlust is a passionate social media creator and currently studying at NOROFF who made the bold decision to move from Oslo to Horten in 2019. Initially, she faced challenges like many others in integrating in the Norwegian society and moving to a small town like Horten, unsure if it could ever feel like home. But what started as a leap of faith turned into a journey of discovery, and YES Horten has been her home & she works close to home.

Over the years, Nicca uncovered the hidden gems that Horten has to offer, realizing that this town has a lot of opportunities. She has since built a strong network in Norway and is dedicated to helping fellow immigrants find their potential and how they fully integrate into the daily Norwegian life.

For the past four years, Nicca has thrived in her role at an electronics tech company in Horten. She's grown to love this town where everything you need is within reach. Nicca is excited to share her experiences and show you that in a small town like Horten, you can find not only a job but also a fulfilling life filled with opportunities.
