01 Social and professional networking

Connecting with social and professional networks from the start will help you make the most out of your move to Oslo.

Many Norwegian hang out with their old friends, and it can take awhile to build relationships with these “vennegjenger”. Sometimes a smoother way into Norwegian society is to join a club or association such as the Norwegian Tourist Association which arranges group outdoor activities: Den NorskeTuristforening (DNT). You can also get to know people through volunteer activities with nonprofits like Røde Kors (Red Cross). Check out the groups that align with your interests, be it sports, nature, theater, social work or even dog-walking.

There are many professional network as well that arrange free or low-cost events throughout the year. Attending events is good way to learn and meet people with shared interests.

Each year, University of Oslo arranges a career event, Karriereuka, to navigate the job market.

If you are an entrepreneur, check out the co-working spaces such as MESH, The Factory, Katapult, and SoCentral. For an overview of the startup ecosystem in Oslo, visit Oslo Business Region.
